A consumer cooperative is a business owned by the people who utilize its services. We have seen countless small, community stores disappear one by one, due to lack of capital as well as overwhelming competition from large food chains. With the loss of these local markets, we also give up an important part of our community. However, if a group contributes capital and patronizes their own business, it has a much greater success. It can also grace the community with a natural foods store that provides high quality goods and services based on the direct participation of the consumer. Your membership allows us to support the local community as well as Rhode Island organic agriculture. As well it helps us better educate people as to the benefits of lifestyle choices. As part of the Alternative Food Cooperative you can become as involved as your schedule allows. Or you can contribute by making this your store, letting us know what you would like to see on the shelves, and telling your friends about the Co-op. Becoming a member is a simple process.
